Day two of the Pinehurst trip

Yesterday was all business with an all day seminar on BASF products and education on proper use of fungicides and other product. Brian Thompson, strategic accounts manager for BASF, hosted the 2 day event. In the following pictures, you will see Brian discussing use of certain product and also sharing his wealth of knowledge with our Florida group. After lunch, we were joined by Bob Farren, CGCS, Director of golf and grounds at the Pinehurst resort. Bob shared wonderful stories about operations and detailed information about the recent renovation at the #2 course. He finished with a grand tour of the maintenance facilities at Pinehurst.
This was a wonderful experience for all of us. Educational and enjoyable. If ever given this opportunity to go to the BASF Pinehurst trip. I suggest that you take that trip.

Round of golf with Winfield Solutions and BASF at the famous Pinehurst #2

On Monday Jan. 21st, myself and several other GC Superintendents from Florida were guests of BASF at Pinehurst. This day we all flew in early in the morning and had a noon tee time at the #2 course. Home of the 2014 U.S. Men's and Women's opens. This course went through some major renovations a few years ago removed acres of roughs and replacing with natural areas. It was a great experience! Plus I birdied the number 1 handicapped #5...... Bonus!

Taking a trip to Pinehurst for Education and Golf

On Monday, January 21st, I will be traveling to Pinehurst, NC with my friend, Carl Benedict and several other turf professionals. Carl is my local distributor for Winfield Solutions, a distribution company that I purchase several product from. One of their product lines are BASF Products; http://betterturf.basf.us/

This will be a 2 day education event to better the knowledge of product use and several other topics. I am very excited also, to be able to play the famed "Pinehurst #2" golf course. Although temperatures will only reach the upper 50's on Monday during our round, I will surely dress warm and enjoy the experience.
Being able to enjoy this event with a great turf professional and a long time friend, Carl. I am sure I will come back with a wealth of knowledge and great memories.

Time to clean, update and organize my office! Since I took over the maintenance operations at VP, I have been looking forward to remodeling my office. When I was cleaning (trashing) most of the items in the office. I found documents dating back to the 80's!
Stay tuned for the finished product

Spiking greens to provide surface aerification

Over the past seven days we have experienced an abnormal amount of rainfall. We must periodically spike the top 1 inch of the greens just to provide oxygen in the upper levels of the soil profile.

January rains!?!?!?

What is with all this rain?
January has been a wet start to 2013. Over the past five days we have experienced over 3 inches of rain and clouds. Lake levels are at all-time high. However I'm not complaining we can always use the wet stuff, we just need more moderation.
